Wendy Schultz | Founder

Wendy left a senior level position in a healthcare system where she oversaw the revenue cycle to begin a life of entrepreneurship in 2013. Driven by a strong desire for success, she has built a successful business that supports her dream of owning and managing a network of vacation rental properties. In a few short years, her commitment to integrity and excellence has rocketed the business to a level that not many businesses achieve in their lifetime. She has a Masters of Business Administration degree and is a licensed real estate agent with iLoveDoorCounty.com Mahler Sotheby’s International Realty.

Wendy is a teacher at heart and loves to help people find vacation homes that they can enjoy as well as rent to offset expenses! Wendy enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends,. Her favorite place to be is at the beach! She and her husband, Scott, have two daughters, and also have a menagerie of pets to satisfy their animal-loving nature. They reside in De Pere, WI and Venice, FL. 

Scott Schultz | Co-Founder

Scott left the corporate world to join his wife, Wendy, in building The Simple Life Hospitality in 2017. Scott has a Bachelor’s Degree in History and had worked in the insurance industry prior to joining The Simple Life Hospitality.

He is an avid Beatles fan and began playing guitar several years ago. He’s first to be picked to be on trivia teams with a wealth of knowledge about pop culture, sports, history, and politics. He enjoys living in Florida and traveling back to Wisconsin where he and Wendy have a second home. They spend a great deal of time traveling together with their daughters. He also enjoys watching basketball and football.

Beth Chojnacki | Chief Operations Officer

Beth oversees and leads multiple areas of our business to include new property onboarding, accounting, operations, and guest services. She contributes to the success of our growing business with her strengths in project management, process excellence, continuous improvement, and communication. Beth is driven to provide the very best experience and culture for our owners, guests, and staff.

Beth started with The Simple Life Hospitality in March of 2022 after spending 18 years in transportation and logistics. She holds a Bachelor of Science in public administration and political science from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. Beth is a mother to two school age children, wife to a cargo airline pilot and they reside in Howard, WI. She loves spending as much time as possible at a lake in central Wisconsin and taking any opportunity she can to travel. Beth also has a passion for self-development, enjoys working out and supporting others to drive change in their lives. Fun fact: You pronounce Beth’s last name: ‘Hoy-not-ski’ and yes, it is Polish.

Michael Friedman | Chief Executive Officer

With over 35 years of experience in luxury hospitality, vacation rentals, online travel, and real estate, Michael is a distinguished co-founder and board member of Vacation Rental University (VRU). Specializing in coaching, consultative sales, executive leadership, talent development, and operational excellence, Michael has a proven track record in fostering business growth in competitive markets.

As the former COO for the Americas at Onefinestay, Michael managed a luxury portfolio of over 2500 properties, achieving profitable growth, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Recognized as one of the “Top 20 Most Influential Professionals in the Vacation Rental Industry Globally,” Michael is a sought-after global speaker and thought leader.

Now serving as the CEO of the Simple Life Hospitality, Michael describes joining the company as one of his best career decisions. His passion for empowering others and contributing to TSLH’s growth is evident in his role. In his downtime, Michael enjoys Badger or Packer games, fishing, and quality time with his sons, Alex and Sam. He returned to the Madison, WI area in 2020 after living 20 years in Charleston, SC.

Stacy Birr | Director of Operations

Stacy joins our team with 20 years of experience in property management. Her prior experience transfers over to the vacation rental business to deliver a 5-star experience.  She enjoys overseeing and coordinating all the moving parts of the rental business, with the ultimate goal of providing guests and property owners a great experience!

Stacy resides in the De Pere area with her husband and two kids. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends up at the lake and enjoying all the outdoor activities it has to offer.

Katie Skurr | Owner Relations and Communications

Katie has 20+ years of professional experience in client engagement and solution-oriented roles. She brings a fresh viewpoint, loves to serve and help people know they are treasured. After graduating from the University of Evansville with International Business and Spanish degrees in 2002, she worked in corporate marketing and client development and then spent 10 years running her own internet marketing and wine brokerage businesses. Most recently, she was the Director of Communications for a wealth management company in Appleton, WI. She is the owner of Lost Lake Cabin in Rhinelander, WI, which we’ve managed for her for many years. Knowing first-hand what it means to be one of our owners adds great value and commitment. Katie leads all communications, as well as Owner Relations. She is focused on learning the unique needs of our owners and applying the heartbeat of our purpose—treat every property as our own.

Katie builds deep, rich, honest connections. She lives west of Appleton, in Hortonville, with her husband Aaron, who works in compliance in the financial services industry. They share their home with their four rescue pets: dogs Nellie & Roo and cats Squirrel & Miles. She is an avid reader, loves to cook, explore new wines, and spend time at their lake house. She abhors grocery shopping, lawn mowing, and not completing things on her to-do list. She is a free-thinker and never opens the letters in the mail that say, “open immediately.”

Carrie Tjernagel | Door County Property Coordinator

Carrie oversees the onsite aspects of the properties including managing the cleaning crew, onsite property consulting with owners, health inspection coordination and many, many other roles. She ensures that the properties are well taken care of and ready for rentals. Carrie holds a Bachelors degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College where she majored in English and minored in Communication.

She lives in beautiful Door County with her husband and daughter. They enjoy the amazing life that Door County offers—hiking in the State and County Parks and boating and fishing on the abundant waters of the area. Carrie is a fitness fanatic, teaching a group fitness class at the YMCA and has completed over a dozen half marathons.

Angie Dums | Guest Services Lead

Angie is the guest service lead for Simple Life Hospitality. She has joined our team following 15 years in the leasing and property management field. Before embarking on her career, she obtained her Associates degree and studied real estate. She enjoys helping people find their perfect home whether temporary or long term and she is excited to transfer that into vacation properties and guest experiences. Treating people with courtesy and politeness is her nature.

Angie, her husband, and family reside in the Green Bay area. Spending time with her family and friends is what she loves doing the most. She is also passionate about interior decorating and enjoys following all the latest home trends.

Denise Richardson | Onboarding Specialist

Denise is a seasoned travel industry professional with extensive experience working in leisure and corporate travel, including airlines, travel management companies, travel technology, hotels/hospitality, ground transportation, and more. One of her more recent positions was as a Strategic Global Account Manager, where she worked closely with clients to identify potential process improvements to streamline efficiencies, reduce costs, and create business plans that aligned with company policies and vision. She spent the last year at the Door County Tourism Zone. Denise is passionate about living a simple life and creating unforgettable memories with her family and friends, which is what initially drew her to the Simple Life. As the Onboarding Specialist, she is responsible for working closely with owners and executing the onboarding process.

In her personal life, Denise lives near Cave Point in Jacksonport with her three shelter dogs. Her love for Door County began when she was a little girl dreaming of having her own place there, and now she enjoys entertaining guests, hiking, and spending time in nature. Denise has traveled to all 50 states in the US and has visited incredible places such as Machu Picchu, the Pyramids at Giza, Moscow, Russia, and Ephesus in Turkey. She also floated in the Dead Sea in Israel and has been on safari in Kenya. Her bucket list is never- ending. Denise’s interests include working with wood, re-purposing furniture, art and art history, classic rock music, and spending quality time with her daughter, family, and friends.

Will Pflum and family | On-call Dispatch & Email Support

As one of the very first property owners to hire The Simple Life Hospitality many years ago, Will and Liz Pflum, along with their twin daughters, have become friends with our team. They lead our on-call service to support guest and property issues during guest stays. They also cover our email box on nights and weekends.

Will has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Administration-Criminal Justice, and has an extensive amount of experience in customer service and problem solving. He lives close to Ripon, WI and enjoys watching sports of all types, ice fishing and traveling to Door County when he gets the chance.
